Marching On

The Wedding Story

I've been meaning to write this since we got home on Monday night, but it's taken me this long to upload the pictures to my album.  For those who are interested, they are in DMouse - Wedding and Honeymoon.  I also found these pictures, which are of the island that we stayed on:  http://bilder.malediven.net/Meedhupparu/index.htm

So the day dawned. It was nice, warm and sunny.

The Baron had trouble forming coherent sentences, and so we didn't really talk much.  I left for the hotel at nine, as I had to start decorating the reception hall.  The road between the Church and the reception hall had reopened that morning.  I met my sister there and we decided that breakfast would be a better idea.

We had made the table decorations the night before so it was just a case of putting them out, sprinkling the rose petals and curling the ribbons.  It turns out that Mum had accidently left the wedding cakes at home so she spent a fair part of the morning arranging to have them brought down.

We left at eleven to get our hair done.   Not having much hair made that fairly quick for me - it was washed and dried, and my tiara was fixed on.

We went back to the hotel and realised that we had a couple of hours to kill before we needed to get dresed.  So we bought a couple of bottles of wine and had a few drinks.

Soon enough it was time to get dressed.  We did our make-up - not easy in a small room with a small boy running around, and then we got dressed.

First disaster of the day.  I ripped my bodice whilst climbing into it.  It didn't show though once I was laced into it, but I was a little upset that I hadn't even been in it a minute without disaster.

We headed off (taking lots of pictures on the way).

We got to the Church at five to two.  The vicar was outside waiting and confirmed that the Baron was inside and was even managing to talk in sentences. It was time.

The organ struck up, and there was an expectant rustle as everyone turned to watch me walk in.  That was the one and only time that I felt nervous.  We slowly followed the vicar up the aisle, and I remember people talking to me as I passed them, but I can't remember what anyone said to me.  I was busy looking at the Baron at the front, who looked completely shocked that I was wearing a dress.

And so the service began.  It was a beautiful service, but surprisingly short.  The Boy did his reading. the vicar read 1 Corinthians 13, and suddenly we were married. Even though I accidently put the ring on the Barons right hand.  We walked down the aisle together and stood outside for what felt like an age whilst people took their pictures.  My Mum drove the car round and then it was time to leave.

The reception was lovely.  The food was good, the DJ was really good and it was so nice to have all our family and friends there.  The Baron's nan got drunk and threw a strop, the Boy called the Baron a fat bloater in his little speech and we had real trouble cutting the cake, but we had a great time.

We got up quite early the next morning, and nipped back home before we joined the rest of our family for breakfast.  The cats needed feeding and loving....

We had a little tea party at my parents house that afternoon, and it wasn't until late that night that we were able to sit down and relax in our own house.  Even that didn't last long as we had to prepare for leaving for the Maldives the next day (after the funeral).

And so we are married.  Nothing has changed. I still have outstanding reports to write, piles of washing to do and a mad dog to walk (speaking of which - she how has kennel cough, a chest infection and ulcers on her legs).  The Baron still works bizarre hours and still goes outside for a smoke.

But.  Things have changed.  The leaves have fallen from the trees.  The nights are cold and hard.  And we are married.
