Marching On

Must. Try. Harder

I'm a very bad blogger.

However, I am so knackered that I will remain a bad blogger tonight.

I'm off to my nice, warm, cat filled bed for some much needed kip.

I'm back!

We have a computer!  At last!

The Baron spent the entire weekend building a new one from scratch - I'm not joking - he didn't come to bed until late on Sunday.  We even missed our own birthday party.  How tragic.

So we are both a year older now.  I went to the pub on my birthday and got disgustingly drunk.  I was still nursing my hangover on the Baron's birthday two days later.  He was too busy computer building to go out on his birthday, but I suspect that I drank enough for both of us two days earlier...

He bought me "Long Way Round", and I bought him series 1 of "Battlestar Galactica".  You can probably imagine the *discussions* we have over the dvd player at the moment!

We have celebrated Charlie, Ozzie and Lila's adoptaversaries this month - events that are taken very seriously in the DMouse House.  We celebrated with lots of ham.  Charlie has been with us for two years and has come on so much that it is like having a whole new cat.  Ozzie and Lila have been with us a year.

This of course means that Harvey has been gone a year.   I still can't think of that day without crying and I miss the little bastard every day, but I wouldn't have Ozzie if I still had Harvey.  My mind can't get round that one, so I content myself with snuggling Ozzie and missing HarveyCat.

What else?  The Boy has shot up another couple of inches and has no clothes that fit.  He also sports a stupid haircut thanks to his Dad.  He looks a little nerdy.

Mummy had a crash on the motorway and wrote her car off completely.  She was driving in the rain, aquaplaned and hit the central reservation.  She then spun across all three lanes of traffic and ploughed into a tree.  Amazingly, although the car is a wreck, she walked away with whiplash.  She is busy trying to work out how to afford a Mini.

RIght.  I need to go and finish tidying the kitchen.  My life is so dull.

I'll see what I can do.

Pictures of my town, you say?

Right.  I'll snap to it.

Still here

I am still around.  I've been so busy since we got home that I have barely had time for the computer at all.

Lots to tell - hopefully tomorrow!

Ignorance is bliss

Not knowing, talking about or even thinking about things is my new coping strategy.  If I don't know, it isn't happening.

We are not talking about my cycle.  My reproductive organs are organs non grata at the moment.  Cycle day 53 my fucking arse.  Not up for discussion.

We are not talking about the fact that one of my reprobate cats has pissed on the spare bed again.

We are definitely not talking about the deranged dog.

We are not going to discuss my chronic hayfever.

Nor are we going to talk about being called into school because the Boy has been giving his classmates the finger.

In fact, screw talking.

I am going to have a very large whiskey.

Sunday's

Silent alarm clocks.  Lazy lie-ins.  Late breakfasts.  Huge cups of fresh coffee with whipped cream.  Sunday roasts.  A quiet read.  A leisurely pint in the pub.  Long hot baths.

Those were the pre-pet days.

Nowadays............

A silent alarm clock.  Charlie bopping my hand to wake me at the time my alarm clock would have gone off.  Hollie bopping my face to wake me and move Charlie.  Ellie hanging off of the curtains.  Ozzy talking to himself. Frankie snoring. The Baron snoring.

Lila howling, demanding breakfast, a walk and playtime.  Clean up after teh dog.  Clean the litter tray.  Feed the cats.  Feed the dog.  Clean up after the dog.  Clean the litter tray again.  Put more cat food down as Ozzy ate it all. Play with the dog. Clean up after the dog.

Remove Frankie from the shower.  Have shower.  Remove Charlie from warm towel.  Get dressed.  Remove Charlie from damp towel.  Remove Willow from the washing basket and put the towel in.

Clean up after the dog.  Make breakfast.  Start eating.  Chase dog into conservatory for peace and quiet.  Return to find a cat eating my breakfast.

Sit down with a cup of tea (Ellie got into the cream I just whipped for coffee, and there isn't enough to make another cup).

Start getting lunch ready.  Retrieve howling dog from conservatory.  Clean the conservatory.

Put the roast in the oven.  Trip over Willow as she assumes her watch guard position.  Feed the dog.  Clean up after the dog.  Ignore Willow's piteous cries.

Take lunch out.  Put dog in conservatory.  Return to find Frankie and Willow licking the joint of meat.  Pretend I didn't see.  Serve and eat.

Ignore untidy kitchen.  Remove howling dog from the conservatory.  Clean the conservatory.  Feed the dog.  Feed the cats.  Remove the dog from the litter tray.  Scoop the litter tray before the dog eats anymore.  Clean up after the dog.

Collapse on the sofa.  Open book.  Read two lines.  Remove Charlie from the book.  Tend to bleeding bite wound.  Read two lines.  Remove Frankie from the book.  Put book away.

Debate going to the pub. Realise the dog has chewed through my bootlaces (again).  Decide that the pub is too much effort.

Clean up after the dog.  Play with the dog.  Tend to new bleeding bite wounds.

Decide to have a bath.  Remove Frankie from the bath.  Run bath. Get in.  Watch Ellie eat the bubbles.  Watch Frankie fall in.  Retrieve Frankie.  Remove Charlie from warm towel.  Dry Frankie.  Get dressed.  Remove Charlie from damp towel.

Try to get into bed.  Inch Ozzy over.  Don't move too quickly or Charlie gets upset.  Leave room on the pillow for Hollie.  Leave room at the end of the bed for Willow.  Realise I am lying on Frankie's tail.  Sneeze and send them all running.

Fall into an exhausted slumber.

And look forward all week to the next Sunday......

Loose ends

OK.

River Cottage is a TV show. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall upped sticks and went to live in the country. He grew all his veg, raised livestock and basically lived as a true smallholder. Great TV, and very inspirational for those into that kind of thing.

Ozzy is here and there will be pictures soon. For some bizarre reason all the cats are accepting him and he is currently stationed on my bed with the others. Frankie has already groomed him, which is pretty damn amazing. He is a sweet boy, and I am sure that Harvey had a paw in me finding him.

There will also be pictures of our new water feature soon, but the garden is in a mess because we had to remove a tree today. As you do. So when it is respectable, you will see the shrine to Star Wars.

I may have planted all those seeds, but Miss GreenFingers I am not. Most things I grow die, and I am not holding out much hope for the veg. However, the Baron is in charge of all plant stock as of now, under the supervision of my parents (Veg Growers Extraordinaire) and so hopefully we will actually get some veg out of all this.

Our garden isn't huge by any means (our garden is smaller than a double garage) but with a combination of raised beds, hanging baskets and lots of containers we are able to grow an awful lot. I also have some sunflowers to plant, and those will probably go out the front, near Harvey's grave.

The weather has been pretty mild - we have had daffodils already and a couple of trees have gone into bloom. It is great that we are able to start now, and we are really excited! I checked the seeds I planted during the week and my broccoli is looking good.

So other than the general election, this will be a good spring!
